How to Join

Incoming Freshmen: Please complete the Information Request to become a part of our mailing list and receive important information about how to join the band.

Current Duke students: Enroll in MUSIC 210-3 through ACES. Request a permission number from the director, Jeff Au, at jeffrey.au@duke.edu. If you already have a full course load, it is not necessary to enroll in the MUSIC 210-3. You will be held to the same attendance standards as enrolled members, but you won't receive academic credit. MUSIC 210-3 is worth .5 credits.

Auditions

There are no formal auditions to participate in the Duke Band. Trumpet, trombone, and drumline musicians must play a segment of the fight song for the director during band camp. This music will be handed out during the first rehearsal. Trumpet and trombone players do not have to audition for admittance, only for part placement. Percussionists must audition for a spot in the line.

Band Camp

We have a band camp that runs concurrently with freshman orientation where you will learn our marching technique, school songs, and drill formations for pregame and halftime. The camp schedule is determined with the help of the orientation staff so as not to interfere with important orientation activities. Click on the tab on the left to view the 2021 schedule.
